USING THE HIGHER POLY WHEELS ON THE SLOW COMPUTERIf you have download the wheels that you like so much but they are the high poly stuff, you can do some corrections by yourself to improve it in the game and less the freezing.
If the prism3D (*psm) is too big, you shouldn't touch it. Your game must be freezing from time to time and at most cases all the time. If it's prism is over 1000 kB, you can not play with that wheels or the game will freeze many time until "psm.log" will shout down your game.
But, if the "psm file" is around half of a megabit, then you can do the few steps I'll show bellow to reduce the wheels and give them the same one effect but the less freezing effect in the game.
Step 1You will need to download the proper "DXTBMP" converter. It's free and you can google it.
Once you download it, install it and go to the step two.
Step 2Go to your C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\18 WoS Pedal to the Metal\makes\wheels folder and choose the wheel file name of the wheel you have download and want to use in your game.
Copy the wheel to your desktop and close the previous folder. Click on your wheel and drag it to "DXTBMP" converter and paste it in.
When the wheel is in, open it in the "alpha screen", it's chosen as red color on the picture below.
img846.imageshack.us/img846/8765/screen1jr.jpgWhen you open it you will need to resize it. Open up the "Image" menu and choose the "scratch and screw" option. Then enter the half value to each of two fields (in numbers, it's 50/50) and click on OK button. Like on pictures below.
img850.imageshack.us/img850/2247/screen3pr.jpgimg525.imageshack.us/img525/6126/screen4vg.jpgAfter that, open up the "Edit" menu and choose option "Select All". Then press the right mouse button and choose the option "Copy to" and copy the image on your desktop.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/4665/screen5op.jpgAfter that, close the Paint program only. Then use the double click at your wheel that is in DXTBMP and the Paint will act again but this time you will have to resize the wheel, not the alpha scheme. Do the same as you did with the alpha. But do not copy it nowhere. After resizing, open up "File" menu and click on "Save". Do not close the Paint Program. Go back to DXTBMP an click on the icon "Refresh after editing", it's chosen red on the picture below.
img801.imageshack.us/img801/3599/dxtz.jpgAter that, open up the "File" menu and choose the "Save As" option and save it as the same one name it is the wheel on your desktop. When asks to overwrite, agree and save the file. Close the bot, Paint and DXTBMP programs and you will be returned to your desktop.
Step 3Drag your wheel again and paste it to DXTBMP program. Now you will need to modify the alpha file so that would not be the crashes in the game when U use it. Open up the "alpha" file (double click on it). Once you are in Paint, bring the window down and return to you desktop.
DO NOT CLOSE PROGRAMS. JUST BRING THE WINDOWS DOWN!Choose the previous copy of the alpha file and opet it with some other program taht have the option for resizing the images (like ACDPro), but U can use anyone you have. Resize the image at the half value. For an example, if its values are 512/512, resize them to 256/256 and save the file. Close the program, return to desktop and bring up the Paint program.
Open up the "Edit" menu and choose the option "Paste from" and then load the alpha file U just resized. Open up the "File" menu, choose option "Save". Do not close the Paint.
Bring up DXTBMP program, chose the icon "Refresh after editing", open up the "File" menu, choose the "Save As" option and save it at the same one name of your wheel.
Cut your wheel from the desktop and paste it into "wheels" folder. When asks to overwrite, do it and you'll have the less poly wheel into the game and the game will work properly without the crashes.
**Note**The best resizing of the wheels is the "pneu" size; it's
86kb. To do this, the resizing of the both (alpha and the skin) files must be at
256/256 value.
